Paperwork
Paperwork is a stationery brand known for its culturally inspired, artist-led products that blend storytelling with expressive, handcrafted design. I was approached by Paperwork to create two distinct notebook cover designs, each exploring a different creative direction while staying aligned with their brand identity.
Truck Art Series — Mood Board & Direction
To begin the Truck Art notebook, I created a mood board to explore authentic South Asian truck art references, including patterns, colors, and motifs. This helped establish a clear visual direction and ensured cultural accuracy in the design. It also guided consistent style decisions and translated traditional elements into a modern, print-ready cover.
The final design features a front and back notebook cover with a simplified truck illustration inspired by traditional truck art. Since real truck art is highly intricate and detailed, I intentionally reduced it into minimal motifs to make it more suitable for print and stationery use. This simplification helped retain the cultural essence while ensuring the design aligned with Paperwork’s existing product range. The approach maintained brand consistency and created a more balanced, modern interpretation of traditional truck art.
Wildlife Sketchbook — Interior Illustration Concept
I conducted research on user behavior around sketching and creative hesitation, and also drew from my own experience as an artist and designer, where starting a blank page can sometimes feel difficult. Based on this insight, I designed a wildlife-themed hand-drawn doodle illustration placed inside the sketchbook rather than on the cover. This approach was intended to reduce pressure, encourage freer expression, and create a more inviting starting point for users to begin drawing.
